From the idea...
Lancey’s project comes from Raphaël Meyer’s idea of combining a battery with an electric radiator to democratize batteries in France in order to foster the energy transition. Raphaël presented this idea for the first time in 2014 and soon met Gilles Moreau, a battery specialist leading an R&D project in this field. In 2015, they joined forces with Hervé Ory, a serial entrepreneur who had already created several successful companies. After applying for the first patents of the company, they create Lancey Energy Storage in 2016. Raphaël Meyer, PhD in thermal physics, becomes its CEO. With his extensive background in research, Gilles Moreau takes the role of CTO while Hervé Ory manages the financial and administrative issues as CFO.
... to the first prototypes ...
Lancey Energy Storage is then joined by electronics engineers in order to realize a proof of concept. During the winter 2016/17, 100 prototypes are installed by Opac 38, Grenoble Habitat and the Metropole of Grenoble, social landlords and a municipality who have been supporting the project from the beginning. Thanks to this experimentation’s success, Lancey raises 1 500 000 euros in May 2017, including 500 000 euros in capital, in order to develop a commercial version of its radiator.
... and Lancey heater commercial version.
In 2017 the team strengthens itself with industrial backgrounds as well as administrative sales and marketing profiles. The same year it also relocates to STmicroelectronics’ site in Grenoble who invited the company to join the start-up it hosts. In less than one year, the commercial version of Lancey’s solution is developed, certified and industrialized in order to produce 500 units to be installed during the first quarter of 2018. During IFA Berlin, in September 2019, Lancey is releasing the new generation of its solution, that fosters self-consumption and will be launched in France in 2020. In July 2019 Lancey closed a fundraising of 8 million euros to accelerate its development.
